Nella seconda metà del Settecento i legami di parentela della famiglia Savoia con le case regnanti di Parigi, Parma e Madrid influenzano le scelte ideologiche e artistiche del Piemonte. In particolare, nel 1775, il matrimonio di Carlo Emanuele (futuro Carlo Emanuele IV) con Clotilde di Francia (sorella di Luigi XVI) dà avvio all'introduzione dello stile Luigi XVI in Piemonte e quindi alla diffusione di repertori decorativi ideati da architetti francesi come Delafosse, Roubo, Jombert e Petitot, ai quali attingono tra gli altri Giovanni Battista Boucheron e Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo. La conferenza metterà a confronto le opere dei due artisti con i modelli decorativi francesi da questi utilizzati nel corso della loro carriera.
